Enjoy this map of the Hawkes Bay wine region of New Zealand as an underground map. Wonderfully informative this map shows all the current winery cellar doors/tasting rooms that you can visit in the region. It would make a great addition to any home or office where people love their wines.
Hawkes bay is the oldest wine region in NZ and the 2nd largest producer of wine, and NZ’s leading producer of red wines. Located at 39.4°S, the region is situated on the east coast of the North Island.
Hawke’s Bay’s long, hot summers and cool winters offer the best weather for growing grapes. The climate is dry and temperate. Red wines dominate with over 80% of New Zealand’s plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. We also specialize in rich and complex Chardonnays.
Missionaries in the mid 19th century planted the first vines at the vineyard that is now known as “The Mission”. There is an estimated 74 wineries located across Hawke’s Bay of which around 30 have cellar doors or tasting rooms. The Wine Underground map gives you an indication of where those cellar doors/tasting rooms are.
